Salam and Hosh galmisian (Welcome) are the traditional greetings in Baku, one of the largest cities in the Soviet Union and capital of Soviet Azerbaijan, where guests have always been regarded as a blessing. Baku is honoured and happy to receive the numerous visitors who flock to it, attracted by its unique position and varied architecture, its cult of poetry and music and, of course, by its people.
